Welcome to Collegiate High School Library.

The library is a well-stocked and very well used area of the school. Lessons may be booked into any of the areas of the library. These areas consist of, non-fiction study area, fiction area, the use of twenty-two computers and a Lecture Theatre.

Every pupil is a member of the school library, and if a card is misplaced or lost, replacement cards are available.

The library has a very up-to-date fiction area with all new books on display to encourage a love of reading for pleasure. There is a quick -read/easier section of fiction, graphic novels, general fiction, classics and an area for Young Adult/Staff fiction.

Daily newspapers and monthly magazines are available. Videos and DVDs are also available to rent for one night loans at 50p per night.

A wide selection of non-fiction and reference books are held in the library to help with homework, coursework and projects. If you are unable to find your subject books please ask and the librarians will be happy to help.

Twenty two computers are situated in the library for pupils to use at break, lunch and after school. Printing and scanning facilities are also provided.

There is also an extensive Careers’ Library for all pupils offering information and advice.

The library operates a stationery shop and a book club service where books may be purchased through the library. Once a year a Book Fair is held in the library offering a wide choice of books to buy. Information about this event is sent out to all pupils in advance of the sale.

The library is staffed by Mrs Taylor and Mrs Earnshaw who are happy to help with finding information, helping choose a fiction book and all general enquires.

Library After-School Club 3 – 4pm Every Day

The After-School Club offers a wide range of activities from Board Games, Nintendo DS, Quiz nights and welcomes outside visitors.

Renaissance Learning UK

This reading scheme was introduced into the library in September 2008. It is currently be used by all Year 7 and Year 8 pupils. Look out for hundreds of new books, fiction and non-fiction, and along with a reading log pupils can enjoy reading new titles, taking part in book quizzes via an internet link and collect certificates showing their reading progress.   • July saw the very popular teenage author Cathy Cassidy making a visit to Collegiate High School. Over 200 pupils enjoyed a morning listening to Cathy talk about her ideas, how she became an author and read from her latest book – Angel Cake.
  • Cartoonist and Caricaturist Kev F Sutherland entertained sixty pupils from all years to a comic workshop. Each pupil helped to make a Collegiate Comic and Kev drew a caricature of every pupil. This display may be seen in the library. This event was sponsored by StarBooks.
